Wishing Star {Process Post}

Welcome to the world of the star bunny. She lives in the clouds above our world and take cares of the stars that grant wishes. Just like a gardener tending the crops, she makes sure each star is nice and big before they are ready to rain to the planet below.

And this is the general summary of the idea. I really wanted to make a star bunny since I have been stewing a concept for the moon bunny for a while. But I think the star bunny is more interesting so I wanted to do her idea first! I was lying back in my bed during one of the heavy rainy days we had the last couple of months and thought to myself: "I am really tired and I don't want to work. If the falling rain is like a million stars, I will wish so hard to not go to work that day!" In my tired mind, I closed my eyes for another 30 minutes of sleep and think of each hard drop of rain as lil yellow stars, shattering into little pieces like hail as it breaks on the floor. Later on, I got up and did work because I am an adult. T_T;

And thus the concept was born.

Drawing wishing star was VERY difficult. I was ambitious in this design as I wanted to draw a fuller illustration with background and effects. So if you do happen to open the photoshop file, erms, its kinda wild in there.

I first approached this with the usual sketch and rough colors. Then, I tried to line art the background. It was impossible to get the feeling of a water's flow with line art. I wanted some areas to have line art and some to be crisp and clear. So I did a technique some people like to do which is paint over the line art. Using a pen tool, I carefully shaved away at the edges of the rough lines until the water flows cleanly. I slowly built each konpeito star and then carefully draw water over them to make it look like its sinking.

The moon was created by placing a real moon below it and eyedrop color and slowly swipe my pen to get the shapes and valleys in the right location, then using my own personal taste, add extra texture to give it dimension.

The wishing star bunny is simple and I just colored her as usual. I learned a few new background coloring techniques this month which trying this out! I think the overall image took me 12 hours which is crazy but I think the final effect is worth it. I really spent a lot love on this image! <3

Starting March is the month to get Wishing star and I really hope you like her! Melan off to grind of being an artist! <3\\
