Winter Dragon {Process Post}

Good evening! The month of Winter Dragon is already over but I really want to do a writeup for this theme so here it is!

I haven't been able to find the time to work on these write-ups on the latter half of last year, but part of my new year resolution is to keep up with this because I think a lot about each of my Patreon themes and want to share their stories with you!

Winter dragon is an character who walks amongst the snow. I designed her outfit to be mostly white because I like the idea of her being almost hidden in a blizzard until you suddenly see her. After all, dragons are mystical beings so encountering her should be rare!

The branch she holds is made of ice and it can freeze the air around her so approaching her without being prepared can be rather dangerous (even though she is oblivious to it). She has tender personality and will likely help you if you are lost in the blizzard.

When I drew her design again, I felt that she probably feels lonely in her environment so I drew a little dragon companion for her. LOL To be honest I didn't think too much of "wait a minute, if they are both dragons, why is one so small?" and "if she turns into a dragon, will she be as small as her companion?" At the time of drawing, I just really wanted to draw a companion. xD

I drew this theme during one of the busiest times of the year because I had to prep for AFA at Singapore while Hyde was also busy at multiple cons. When I feel rushed, I always start with a traditional sketch. I then photograph, trace and line digitally. I draw faster in traditional, but usually dislike getting my drawing supplies out so I normally start the drawing process digitally for most Patreon themes.

Since I started traditionally for this piece, I have original line art of the design and see some of the changes I made after transferring the artwork to my digital canvas. Winter Dragon has her companion with her in the original artwork, but when I removed it from the final piece because I felt the composition was getting super cluttering in that area for the size of the print. I had to remove the little dragon to simplify the illustration. :( The sticker sheet remained pretty much unchanged.
