Perfume - August Theme {Process Post}

Good evening! A couple of months ago, I was listening to my sister talk about her perfume hobby, which inspired me to draw "Perfume" as my August theme!

About Postcard Design

I don't really like using perfume often as the smell is very strong but I love the design of perfume bottles. It might come from my job as a designer to admire the details that each brand use in their packaging. So her design is mostly interpreted by me, a perfume amateur!

When I think of perfume, the first thing that comes in mind is the strong scents. There are many notes of perfume and at one point, I considered her as a perfumer, surrounded by ingredients such as musk, sandalwood and bergamot. When sketching it out, I realized, they...kinda don't look that great lol. So I moved back to the tried and true floral accents.

For my perfume character, I wanted her to be permeated with scent. That started with the florals on her hair as well as the florals on her clear jacket. She even have flower stockings and earrings. I want her to be a girly girl so I accessorize her with a pearl necklace and colored nails. She wears a cocktail dress with boots but her jacket helps make it feel like she is on a casual day out instead of a date night. I want to balance fashionable and casual with this outfit!

Her clear jacket is a very important theme to this design because it is supposed to represent the clear bottle of perfume. In a way, she is sorta of a "perfume gijinka".

Her background swirly effect is something new I tried. I wanted to make the background feel like the swirls of diffusing scents. I use a combination of warping, liquifiy and mesh tools on my Adobe Illustrator software to try it. The final effect looks pretty similar to what I want though it is kinda hard to control the program. I hope to get better at it in the end because its really cool to use that as texture!

About Sticker Sheet Design

I had so much fun with the sticker sheet for this project! I was playing around with the idea of a department store ad and design this like a magazine leaflet. I love testing how far I can push a sticker sheet to where you can still use it as a sticker sheet but they still look like something you can put in a postcard book.

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you like this design!

Thank you for reading, have a good day!
