Ornament {Process Post}
Happy holidays! Today is December 25th and its the perfect time to relax a little and take some time to yourself. I think it's the perfect time to post December Patreon full size postcard theme and stickers so you will see what this month's Patreon will look like!
December's theme is Ornament, featuring a caroler who wears holiday decorations on her body. When I was drawing this theme, I was torn between naming this theme Winter's Carol, Ornament, Caroler. I think all the names work but just chose Ornament in the end for it's simplicity.
I love the look of classical ornaments! Taking hold of one in my hand, they glitter, sparkly and also they feel so special with intricate patterns! I tried to illustrate it as best as I can.
When I conceptualize her design, I was getting ready to go to Japan so basically my brain when on "crunch time" mode. In that mode, I work the fastest using pencil and paper so here are some quick pictures I took at night that shows the initial sketches for her idea! In her original design, she has ornaments hanging all over her hair, because her hair was supposed to represent a Christmas tree. But in the final it was more on the top of her head because it will be harder to design a pin around a more complex character.
Her hair was actually super hard for me to draw due to all the wispy hair pieces. It's super fun to do it one time but it's difficult to do it consistently! Most of this drawing involved a lot of copy and pasting pieces to save me time.
The rest of her design was based off googling Christmas choir outfit. / w/ !
When conceptualizing her colors, my brain was dead set on a blue, yellow and white color scheme. I love that color scheme A LOT for winter and I think its a good contrast of having a muted color, a super saturated color as an accent and a neutral color. Using this color scheme, I was determined to be as consistent as possible. That's why in the sticker sheet, even the trees as a muted gray blue color instead of greenish. Over my years of learning, I figured it was more important to be stylistically consistent than environmentally correct as long as you can see what it is! :'D
Thank you for reading today and happy holidays!
