Mycology {Process Post}

Mycology: the study of fungi

That is the name of May's Patreon theme. Though mycology covers way more than just mushroom, I named the theme as such because, its cool! >:D

The idea behind Mycology came when I saw someone post their morel mushroom haul on Reddit. Apparently April was a good time for mushroom hunting. And so this theme was born!

The idea of the Mycology witch came when I really want draw someone woodsy and foresty. I also haven't drawn a fantasy theme in a lil while so I thought it will be a cool idea to combine the idea of witch and mushroom. Afterall, there is such things as magic mushrooms! ;D

Another reason why I want to draw a mushroom witch is because I wanted draw an overgrown witch hat and staff. Those two items are the core of my idea and I spend so much time drawing foliage on the wand and staff. It is pretty hard to draw a cluster of leaves consistently. In the sticker sheet design, I drew the third sticker without a hat because I was so tired of drawing a foliage hat haha.

For her design, I want to incorporate the idea of wisdom and camouflage. I imagine the lil witch hut in the forest and during the day, she will walk in the forest to hunt for shrooms. She doesn't want to be bothered so she wears a mossy cape to hide herself. I gave her a more timeless style outfit. Her blouse has ruffled sleeves and her shirt is tucked in. She wears a dated dress with laces that sorta resembles the spots of the death cap. Long thigh high boots is cute and practical for walking in muddy dirt. I want her to feel not as young but not as old. Her hair style is also designed to be sorta mushroomy with a puffy top and a slim bottom.

I really enjoyed the process of drawing mycology!! A lot of effort was placed on her postcard design. I actually got a little carried away since it is more details on a postcard than how I usually like it haha, but it feels important to immerse her in a lush scenery full of mushrooms.

I hope you like this theme and it will be shipped out around the 2nd week of June! <3
