Milky Way - September Theme {Process Post}
Happy end of September! With one hour left in the month, I decided to post my "Milky Way" process post!
About Postcard Design

The Milky Way theme was originally called "Starry Night" in my drafts and is directly referenced from Van Gogh's iconic painting.
I already know that I want to draw a modern looking interpretation of this theme. Some of the initial sketches involve trying to find a way to compose the theme in different ways. I originally have a vertical composition where the girl is using her scarf to catch the stars in the sky. After trying a few variations of it, I feel that those compositions doesn't feel impactful enough and decided to use a centered composition to give the illustration more of a flowing feeling that matches the famous painting.
The girl in the middle is the tree, the scarf is the cloudly swirl and naturally, the yellow swirls represents the stars.
Around this time, I also renamed this theme from Starry Night to Milky Way because the drawing no longer feel like a night time drawing, but instead, a graphic drawing.
The character for this illustration doesn't have as strong of a personality as some of my other pin club concepts because she is a representation from a painting. I still did my best to maximize her whimsey a cuteness even though she doesn't have a backstory. I did really love this sticker of her as I imagine her weaving in and out among the stars. ^ o^
If you look at the process gif, you will notice that this picture is VERY saturated. I originally drew this image really neon blue. However, it is very difficult to print in that blue color so the final version is a lot more tone down. You will be receiving the original neon blue color as that was the original working color file. :)

Original Saturation

Modified For Printing (on my Illustrator program, it automatically flattens the colors if I choose CMYK mode)

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you like this design! I personally love cool type characters so it is really fun to draw her! I wish all my themes are cool type characters LOL
