Makeship Collab: Bonsai Bunny Plush {Process Post}

Intro

Hello! I am excited to announce a Makeship plushie collab project! My bonsai tree bunny will now be immortalized as a large plushie design. The exact timing for this project is TBH but I want to post an honest review and process of using Makeup to help bring this idea to life.

Some notes before starting: Please do not repost this process anywhere else and share in public. This is for Patreon only. And this is not a sponsored post but I feel that many of you might wonder how it is to work with a plushie manufactorer.

History

A while back, Makeship reached out to me inquiring about doing a plushie collab project with them. Around this time, I was pretty jaded with how my Dandelion plushie is going and didn't want to try another plushie project. But Makeship will help me communicate with suppliers this time so maybe there is hope.

And why the bonsai bunny? The bonsai plushie design is a bit unique and is REALLY hard for me to do on my own.

What I Gave Them

This is the image that I gave them. My asks are:

  • It can stand up on its own
  • The bunny must be detachable
  • It must be soft and plush

    Round 1

They got back to me and said that for this design to work, it must be a large plushie due to the amount of details.

They gave me back an initial sketch with simplified elements of the design since the pin art can't translate directly to a bonsai tree plush

    My feedback was:

    •  Simplified elements are ok, but it must have the decorative rocks
    • The tree leaves must be more plush to make up for the simplified elements.
    • The bunny looks like its sleeping and not as serious
    • The bunny needs a watering can

Round 2

They got back to me with this sketch update which I approved! Time to make the first sample!

Round 3 (first sample)

I was pretty stunned when I got the first sample back because it looks closer to the sketch than I thought LOL

But I am still pretty strict and I always try to make things look better. So I gave them more feedback for this round.

Feedback:

  • The bunny is very important to me and it must stand on its own as its own plushie. At the moment, it fees cheap so I ask for it be a better quality plush fur. I also updated the watering can to be more simple
  • The bunny blush needs to be more pink!
  • The bonsai tree is looking more like a tree and not a bonsai so I ask for even more larger leave bushes
  • I ask them as well to make the base more like a pot but unfortunately, this is the best it can do as a base.

    Round 4 (Second Sample)

When I got the second sample back, I thought the tree is good to go. But what happened to the bunny?! I think my mistake in asking that the blush be stronger made the feedback seems that I want embroidery. So I ask for some more changes

    Feedback:

    • Revert back to the original blush.
    • Add a line for a mouth.

Round 5 (Third Sample)

I laugh so hard when I saw this picture because the bunny's face turned so square. I only have a simple ask and that is to reference the original round face of the bunny. The design is so close.

Round 6 (Fourth Sample)

Finally the design is back and I am super satisfied. The bunny looks like a more premium version of the first sample and the tree is lush! After approving the design, they shipped the plushie to me where I immediately took many pictures to post online!

LOOK AT THE BUNNY! <333 I keep putting it everywhere. I love small plushies. I am so happy with it and currently I hide this plushie near my house plants to blend in. ^ o^ ;

For now, I will wait for Makeship to proceed with the campaign and when it is released, I will let you know about it. Thank you for reading today and listing to the process of making a plushie from Makeship.
