Librarian {Process Post}
Hello! A bit of a late post again. >< I was looking through my social media to catch up on posts and I noticed that the Librarian theme wasn't posted!! So I found some time today to write up some information about this character.
The librarian character was based off a doodle I did in 2022. There is probably a vague reason why I doodled her but knowing myself, it most likely stemmed from a random thought in my head about not visiting a library in a while.
The library was the soul of my childhood! When I was a child, I will go once a week and check out dozens of books each week. Coming home, I will devour the stories in each book, reading 2-4 books a day.
No genre is out of my reach back then. (I'm super picky with my manga now though haha) So I will attempt to read dull biographies all the way to classic fantasy. Picture books, chapter books, comic books, classic Chinese folklore, modern American dreams...its actually quite a surprise I didn't explore a library theme until now.
For this theme, I did struggle a lot to portray what I wish to portray. So this theme took me a LONG time to draw and I was pretty art blocked.
Just to give some examples of sticker sheet concepts I mulled through: "process of bookmaking (I might save that for another day), Dewey Decimal System classification (I thought of doing a book from each category), even more general categories (originally I thought of including non fiction like science, history, sci-fi, etc), daily life of library (the sticker sheet will consist of her sorting books, doing story time with children, sleeping with books, with flying books as mini stickers)
I ended up with three genres I want to focus on: Fantasy, Fiction, Mystery because the stories I want to theme the stickers on is more colorful and I will be able to express the world between the pages. If its not obvious already, the three stories here is: "Anne of the Green Gables, Sherlock Homes, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", with the Alice theme showing as a small hint to the next month's theme ;D
Drawing the postcard design was a lot more simple than the sticker sheets. I am starting to be more comfortable with this system of drawing where I separate the character and background draw them separately so I don't get overwhelmed with the line art. The gold borders is reminiscent of the classic gold patterns around literature. ^_^
I think I wrote more for this topic than I normally did haha.
Have a wonderful day and I hope you look forward to another post soon!
