Kite {Process Post}
Double picture night; I'm a little behind on my posting so I hope this will catch up a bit.
Kite is a little experimenty drawing I did the other night while working on April Patreon. Sometimes when I look at random inspiration, I feel the sudden urge to sketch and last night, I was reading a manga where I saw an image of these kites.
I used to play with kites a lot when I was a kid. Not the intricate ones of course, but really simple cheap kites. When there was no internet, it was one of the most fun past times with my parents. I broke SO many kites, I think every time I flew a kite, it always breaks haha. Those are the thoughts that ran in my head as I drew this, marveling at details and delicateness of the material. I wonder if the memories of childhood cause me to draw a more cute, childlike kite rather than the more mature designs of the references I was looking at.
I really love the contrast of simplicity and pattern making so I focused on trying to hold back on my shading and allow the details to shine.
I actually went back and erase some shading because it was a little overkill at points. There are still points where my shading wasn't controlled such as a the little bit of shading at the end of the kite's tail. With practice, I hope that my coloring intentions for simple pieces will be more purposeful. Even though it was intended to be sketchy, I did spend a couple of hours on it...
The colors of the character came from a little envelope I saw in Daiso. When I saw the envelope, I thought the color scheme looks so cute and I must include it in my next drawing!
That's all for tonight / w / I think I finally caught up with my latest posts!
