Genshin Kickstarter Process {Process Post}

Hello! Been a pretty busy few days because I really want to make the Kickstarter as soon as I can! ^^ There is a ton of work that goes into making a kickstarter plus making a lot of pins at once and I want to just talk about it a little! I haven't had time to really draw much, except for a couple of doodles.

Finished Making the Pins!

I finished creating all 35+ pin designs for this! It took me about 3 nonstop nights. Here is a sneak peek! :D

Testing the Size

Next, I printed out the designs onto paper and make sure that their measurements look good on paper. I also take some of my finished pins and see how the sizes will look like next to it. ^^ It's really helpful so you can see what a mock up of your finished pins will look like!

Sending the Pins to the Manufacturer

Before confirming the Kickstarter on social media, I need to make sure it's possible to make the pins in real life. I sent the pins to my supplier and ask them to take a look at it. They came back and said it is possible but some of the holes will have to be closed. So I went back to update the designs to make sure it works and still fit the character.

You might noticed that the colors look different on the pin samples vs my flat samples. Choosing colors for pins is pretty tricky because using metals on the surface have different results than just printing in black. I found from a lot of pin-making that it is usually better to go brighter on pins because a mute color makes the pin look really dirty. So even with Patreon pin designs, I will always shift the colors a little to make it work in pin printing.

But it is at times like these where it is very important to order samples before printing. That way you can adjust the colors to make it to your liking. It's an additional expense but for such a huge project it is worth it. (by the way, the sample cost for this project is extremely high. If it is not a kickstarter, I don't think I will be able to afford all the designs ><)

Making the Backings

I want to make the pin back look like a simplified summoning fate so I took a current design and draw it in a way that I can use as a foil finishing on the back of the pin. It took a couple of experimenting to figure out how to draw the pattern in a way that is simple but still look like a fate. Note that I reference the fate design for this but it should be fine since it is handdrawn and reinterpreted. (looked at their faq)

Left to Do

There is still a lot of work to do before announcing it and posting it for Kickstarter. I hope to get it done in about 1-2 weeks ><.

  • Header Graphic
  • Stretch Goals Graphic
  • Stickers
  • + some other extra things

In the meantime, because April is soon and the next month is going to be crazy, I'm going to take a mini break from this Kickstarter file and work on Patreon stuff!

I hope this is helpful + gives an update on what I'm working on atm. :)
