Fossil {Process Post}

Full size image of October's Patreon postcard reward. Here is a  long post about one of my favorite things in the world.

For this postcard, I decided to design the back of the postcard like a more traditional postcard design to fit in the old excavation look. I have a huge passion for archaeology, fossils, excavation. My childhood books are all about dinosaurs. In my school days, I probably create three separate term projects based on bones and fossils haha. I was even in a science competition to memorize fossils. And my favorite movie of all time was Jurassic Park u vu/

So I have to do this theme for Patreon! Because I don't want to just do fossils as a one time theme (in case in the future I want to explore dinosaurs or species in the Pliocene period, I wanted to do a more of a beginning of time look.

Starting with the character, I wanted her to look like a record keeper, or someone who is like a statue at a museum. I decorated her design with patterns of bones and old leaves similar to the imprint of fossils in sandstone. Her color scheme of whites, oranges, browns and grays is based on that as well. I want her to look a bit messy and layered. Her design is a struggle because I tried to do too much to it and add a lot of details. I have to tone it back a lot because otherwise, it will be too much detail to add in a pin. At one point, one of her arms was made of bones and the pattern of the leaves extend all the way to the foot.

For the final postcard version, I cropped the picture and removed the text since if I use this scale style, it will look too small on print. Hope you like this month's theme and thank you for reading!
