Cupid {Process Post}
Hello! It is the end of February and so I am about to start preparing for Cupid theme's shipment! The story behind this theme is straightforward: February = Valentine month = Cupid. I feel like I eventually will make a Cupid theme and here it is!
When I started drawing my cupid character, I have a couple of strategies in mind. I want this theme to be solely pink and white. (I ended up breaking that rule by adding some dark reddish black because I wasn't able to fully execute a pure pink and white idea; she need some contrast)
Her personality was also clear in my head: "I want to draw a Cupid angel who is a maid like character that is a newbie at her job." The reason why the maid idea is because in a lot of manga I read, the maid character is always a supporter character to the hero and I I feel like a cupid plays a similar role, supporting from the sidelines!
Because she is a new character design, I didn't have a coherent idea in my head when sketching her. My initial draft was a warrior character wielding a bow and arrow. She was wearing a japanese style outfit with bandages (like Yoimya from genshin for some reason). She doesn't feel very maid to me so I move onto to a character wearing a princess dress but I feel like a princess doesn't have a maid like soul. So in the end, I went with a more classic maid outfit. It's hard to tell but she is wearing a black blouse with a long white ruffled skirt and a white apron. I spend a lot of care pleating the ruffles of her skirt to make it feel super ruffly and not like a pillowing dress.
Her heart halo was a key part of the Cupid theme and is locked in from the start. I removed the bow from her postcard because overall, I wanted this design to look very simple and clean.
For the sticker sheet, I want to focus on a "newbie cupid's day at work". So I thought of some random office workers that Cupid can aim her arrow at. I designed the office characters to be neutral and grounded in design since they are not the main focus. I really wanted to make Cupid's expressions in the sticker sheet expressive. She is trying her best and she really want to help her fated couple! I really loved the large chibis I drew on this sheet (since the postcard can't show off she have black stockings and comfortable loafers, I want to show it here)
I hope you like this design and I hope I can ship them out soon! ^_^
