Birdcage No. 2 Tutorial Gif {Process Post}

My progress for Birdcage No 2. 

For this drawing, my concept immediately was a hugging-the-birdcage pose. 

I started as usual by sketching and refining the sketch until I am happy with the pose. 

For lineart, it's easier for me to focus on one thing at a time so I drew the person first and the birdcage, flowers and leaves all separately. Then I can think of each part as a separate drawing and not feel like it's too overwhelming to do. 

After lineart and coloring, I went back and modified the drawing on a new layer (almost like painting over the drawing) until I felt satisfied. The expression is the hardest part. I changed the expression slightly many times. Even after I finished, I still changed her expression a little. c: 

Coloring this picture was easy because I'm using the same color scheme as my last birdcage image. This picture was a great exercise of consistency and patience for me. I don't enjoy drawing the same things but for the washi project, I have to draw her many times. It helps me learn about being able to keep the same style over many drawing.
