Apothecary {Process Post}
Hello, and happy evening. Today I want to talk a bit about Apothecary, the character for my September theme. I'm happy to see that many people recognize her from my earlier drawing in 2020!
V1 apothecary girl was the character in the brown color background. I drew her without much thought, I think I was watching a historical Victorian era pharmacy Youtube video and thought their brown mysterious bottles are so cool. I just drew a shopkeeper who tends to their bottles, frozen in a scene where her mind is thinking: "May I help you?"
V2 apothecary girl was drawn a little after my first version was well received! I want to flesh her out a little more. I really want to give her classical copper tip boots and also a little pouch of herbs. Her personality is more realized in this version. She is more cheerful and kind demeanor! Instead of a serious shopkeeper, I reimagine her as a character who really wants to help!
V3 is Patreon's pothecary girl. For this design, I want the focus to be more on the herbs side of things rather than medical. After sketching a few concepts, I think that using dried plants is a more attractive sticker than postcard than bottles! I did research on helpful plant species and her she is surrounded by abstract mints, lavender, dandelion, and eucalyptus. For the sticker design, I thought it will be fun to show aspects of her work: a clipboard to take orders, and a measuring tool to figure out grams of herbs.
Drawing her hair was a little confusing since it is so messy. I did a little doodle of her untangling that mess in the morning haha. Please imagine a very loose disheveled ponytail that falls apart during the workday.
