2022 Patreon Themes - Thoughts and Reflections
Hello, another year and 12 different themes for the year of 2022! Whooo, I'm always surprised by how hefty this looks when I compile it all together. After all, this does mean I managed to draw one full illustration every month. It sorta keeps me on my toes!
So yes overall thoughts and reflections while looking at my pin themes ^ 0^, things I never noticed before.
- It looks like I started the year off with lighter muted colors and then switched it to darker and saturated colors while ending the year light and muted again.
- I did 4 animal based themes: Arctic Fox, Canary, Dove, Catsitting (technically she is not a cat girl but..); 2 Plant based themes: Dandelion, Morning Glory; 4 hobby based themes: Collector, Needle & Thread, Kintsugi, Catsitting (again?); and 3 MISC themes: Coral Ocean, Witching Hour and Snowflake!
- I really went for lighter color hairs this year which is not unusual as lighter color hairs are easier for me to create into pins. I did 3 pink hairs which surprised me as I don't remember doing that many pink hairs.
- I did 3 deluxe dual pin themes: Dandelion, and the two Birdcages!
Favorite Theme:
My favorite theme I did this year and the one I enjoyed drawing is Collector! This one was REALLLY hard for me to choose as I managed to find a few themes this year where I was really sucked into the process of creating and practically spent the whole month crafting the theme. But I want to give the reward for Collector as she was really enjoyable to draw and color; deep blues, muted colors; she turned out exactly as I wanted!
I also stacked a ton of detailed foil accents on the design; sweated nervously and is relieved she turned out fine. You can tell when I like the theme since I printed a larger size poster of her haha.
Runner up was Arctic Fox: I learned a lot of coloring techniques with that theme and still reference it from time to time.
Least Favorite (biggest pain to create):
This one might surprise you but it was actually the two Birdcage themes! While I love how it turned out, those two months where almost an obsessive labor of love. As my art style shifts from month to month, I have to practically finish two themes in one month, which is normally fine if its a rather simple design. But I got in my head to do an extremely complicated sticker sheet design with 5+ characters on each design, no reusing of poses, brand new ideas (which was hard as I drew them many times before). The pins were easy enough which was good, despite it being chained! My hands literally trembled as I finished the last touches on Yellow Canary.
The one saving relief is that it gave me a really cushy 1 month break which allowed me some time to research and concept the last themes of the year and finesse Morning Glory which is my runner up for 2nd Least Favorite (biggest pain xox)
Ongoing to 2023
With that, we move onwards to 2023 and the upcoming year! With this year, I want to do something a little different and that is...a majority of the characters will be based on characters I drew before. I went through my backlog of old themes and there were a lot that I haven't touched on or explored. They need some love ^ o^
I think because of the way my brain works and I am always thinking of new ideas, there will be some new themes as well, but I want to focus on some older character designs. Originally for 2022, I intended on 6 new characters and 6 older character themes and in the end, I only reused 3 older character designs >_<!!!
I also looking to try a couple of new printing styles like shimmer sticker papers and different paper stock. I hope to be able to print something on that type of paper this year (similar to the Coral Ocean theme)
And finally, this is a SUPER big 2023 goal but I really want to create an artbook based on my past Patreon themes; maybe from 2020-2021! It's always been on my mind and I hope to have enough time for this. ; w;
But that is it for now! I want to know what theme you like the best and which product I made that you like the most from 2022 and any thoughts you may have. Hoping for a healthy and fruitful 2023!
